Blogs have been hugely popular on the internet and although the understanding of exactly what a blog is and how it works is filtering into the general knowledge, many people are still unsure about them.
Blog is short for “weblog” and it is really nothing more than a series of journal like entries that are shown on a web site. Each entry is usually associated with a date and blogs often have an index of recent postings along with some form of archive organisation for the older posts.
One could create a blog simply using normal web site building tools, but the key to the success of blogs has been server based program that means the poster needs no technical skills and can create new posts as easily as sending an email message. It is usually possible for visitors to a blog site to leave comments against each blog entry. These two things make blog content very current and encourage visitors to engage and interact.
Blogs are often self containted entities that reside on servers that host lots of blogs. Two of the most popular are blogger.com and wordpress.com. A blog hosted at blogger.com, for instance, would have an address like “myblogname.blogspot.com” where the “blogspot.com” part of the address would be the same for all blogs hosted by blogger.com.
However, it is also possible to integrate a blog into a normal web site. And one can make the blog follow the style of your main site and to include an index of recent entries on other pages within the site.
Although blogging started as a form of personal expression, many businesses and corporates include blogs of one form or another on their sites because it is such a powerful way to communicate with visitors and customers.
We have the tools and skills to add a blog to your site. We can discuss how this could be used to improve the usefulness and effectiveness of your site.
