Media Friendly

thumbnail screenshot of www.mediafriendly.org Media Friendly is a successful media training company that provides services to the private sector and is one of the country’s leading media training companies within the public sector. The company had had a web site for many years but had not really used it to drive much new business.

Logogriph completely redesigned and rebuilt the site giving it a modern look while retaining the essence of the identity from the old site. The content was expanded to cover all of the courses and services that have been added since the old site was built. And the content was aligned with the new brochures that they were also introducing at the same time.

The new site was built to increase communication with their current and prospective clients. A newsletter service was integrated with the site allowing visitors to sign up on line. A weblog (or blog) was also integrated to allow Media Friendly to add new content to keep the site dynamic and interesting for their visitors.

The site is rich in information and using Javascript, links and CSS, we have made it easy for visitors to read, bookmark, print, or download the information according to their personal preferences.

Sarah Rhys

thumbnail screenshot of www.rhysstudio.org Sarah Rhys is an artist and educator who lives and works in the Bristol area. Sarah is always working on new projects and making new contacts. Having a site that can be used as a portfolio and curriculum vitae is an ideal way of introducing people to her work and experience.

The site itself has been designed to harmonise with the style of her work and to be quick loading and efficient to use. We used open source Javascript library to animate the opening of gallery of images. This both reduces the bandwidth when the site is in use and also makes it much easier to update the site to keep the selection of images up to date, plus people like it. And if a visitor’s browser is not running Javascript the functionality degrades gracefully and they are still able to view the larger versions of all the images.

Using a contact form rather than displaying her contact details was a good way of maintaining her privacy while allowing site visitors to contact her. Input from the form is instantly sent from the web server to her email so there is no penalty in terms of time and the messages are as easy to handle as any other incoming email message.

Lightboxr

thumbnail screenshot of lightboxr.com Lightboxr.com is the first of Logogriph’s own web applications. Lightboxr uses the web services api (application programmers interface) to access the millions of photographs held in the photo sharing website www.flickr.com.

The purpose of lightboxr is to make it easy to find and process other people’s images. Since many of the images on flickr have the creative commons license it means the images can be used royalty free as long as the terms of the creative commons license are met (such as always giving the image creator credit).

Lightboxr is a sophisticated mix of client and server side technologies to produce an interface that feels more like a desktop application rather than a web site. The site gets its revenue from Amazon associate click throughs from the right hand column which shows Amazon products related to the type of images being searched for.

Since Amazon operates in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France and Japan, the site has been designed to work in different languages. Users indicate what language they would like to use and which country they are based in and the system then shows products from the appropriate Amazon store. We are then able to show products from the appropriate amazon site and in the correct language.

Bristol Streets

bristol streets screenshot Most people don’t like using bus or train time time tables because they are confusing and don’t even list all of the stops. Most transport web sites only give you the answers if you have asked all the right questions, and leave you wondering if you have been given all of the options.

BristolStreets.co.uk takes a completely different approach and allows people to explore what transport options are available and then hone in on the details for a particular journey, and they don’t need to know route numbers or place names or even type, they just have to be able to click on a map.

BristolStreets.co.uk shows a map of Bristol and the surrounding area with plenty of information about various forms of transport including buses, trains, ferries, park and ride, car parks, jam cams, road works and cycle routes. There should be something there for everyone no matter how they want to travel.

Finding which bus you need simply involves clicking the map where you want to go. This shows a list of routes in that area. Clicking the route numbers shows the route paths so you can see where they go to or come from. Once you know the right route, clicking a stop on the route shows what times the buses on that route go past.

In order to get more people to visit the site, Bristolstreets.co.uk also shows sales and rental properties on the same map. This is the most comprehensive site as it lists properties from over 150 agencies in the area all on a single map.
